Digs, “My crash in the heat race didn’t do me any favors which put me into the last chance qualifier (LCQ) which gave me last gate pick for the finals. I had 2 bad starts in the finals because I had a bad gate. The track was a bit muddy at the start but alright towards the end.”

Luke, “The track was good but heaps tacky, I was pretty happy that I qualified. I crashed in the first practice and got my bike all muddy so I only got 4 laps of practice in.”

Mitch, “Practice was good the track was a little wet, by the time qualifying came around the track was sick.  In my qualifying race I got a good start on my KTM 250sxf and qualified 3rd.  Qualified overall in 5th position so I got a good pick of the gate.  I didn’t get the starts I was looking for but still came out in a good position and ended up 11th in the first race and again in the second race not so good a start but still came out in the top 10 and held ninth place.  Putting me in 8th overall in the series.  I was very happy with my riding I came in to the meeting with a goal to finish in the top 10 and I did just that.

McCoy, “Practice was ok getting the feel of the wet track. In qualifying I didn’t get a clear run so I didn’t get the lap time I was looking for but  in the heat race it didn’t work out too bad as I finished 3rd , which gave me a decent pick for the finals. Both finals, 2 average starts which made it hard to pass and get in the position I needed to be. Considering it was the first round I am happy to get that one out of the way and move forward from here. We had a couple of changes to make for round 2 which should definitely make things a lot better. Can’t wait for round 2 as I feel more prepared.

Phil Bond

(Team Manager/Owner)

I was happy with the first round results at Tasmania. For young Luke Bond to qualify directly from the main to his first heat was an outstanding effort as he only turned 16 2 weeks ago and became a senior rider.

Mitch Austin showed everyone the talent that he has been hiding over the years and really stepped it up with a great top 10 finish and is a strong contender in the championship.

Danny Anderson got exceptional starts as usual with a bit of bad luck in the first heat, crashing while running third and hit his head hard when landing which made it difficult for him to focus for the rest of the night. Having to come from the LCQ he re gathered and put a strong effort into the finals to salvage some points in the championship and is looking to have a strong result this weekend in Geelong to move himself up in the points.

Daniel McCoy had a solid ride on his KTM 450SXF, as this was his first competitive race on this machine with our team he had 2 strong top 10 finishes which sits him in 7th position on the points board. With what we have learnt on the weekend we will be doing some testing and changes through the week to improve the bikes speed ready for an assault on round 2 at Geelong. Just a quick thanks to all our sponsors and supporters that have helped us get this far and the boys will be working hard for some podium finishes to repay your efforts.

Many thanks.

October 12th, 2009 admin No comments

The Hunter Valley is a breeding ground for motocross racers and this Saturday October 10th, will showcase many of this area’s most talented and upcoming super stars as they hit the track at the final round of the Yamaha MX Cross Cup at Maitland’s Showground.

Kurri Kurri’s Jake Vella (Team Suzuki, Mark Reed, Fox, Alpine Stars, Graham Boyd Suzuki, High Roller Energy) will be going into the finale with optimism, with the series win within his reaches.

15 year old Vella, home fresh from the Australian Junior Motocross Titles last week in Maffra Vic, after finishing 11th in his class.

“I am now focussed on finishing the MX Cross Cup series and have been training every day for the Super X.

“I am seven points behind Hayden Mellross who is now out injured (after a bad crash at the Aussie Titles) and if I ride well and stay on the bike, I am confident that I can take the series win.

“My coach Mark Reed (dad of Chad Reed) has had me training on Chad’s Supercross track (at Reed’s parents property at Kurri Kurri) and I have been doing lots of other training as well.

“Like all guys my age my goals are to race in the USA and that is my major goal once I turn Senior,” expressed Vella.

Kurri Kurri also has two other promising riders Eli Eastley (Gully Racing) and promoters son Jordan Sargent (Dirt Bike Promotions) who will be competiting in the 13-14 year Junior Lights class alongside Vella.

Kurri Kurri Promoter Phil Sargent says, “the series has travelled across New South Wales having rounds at Orange, Lithgow, Dunedoo, Canberra.

I always look forward to Maitland we have been coming here for over five years, and best of all because it is in our own backyard.

“All our previous rounds have brought a lot to the local economy and they’re a really great family day out,” Sargent said..

The series boasts from nippers to juniors and clubman, women’s and pro lites and pro opens.
