McCoy, Practice went pretty good, got everything done and felt good, qualifying wasn’t so good, cased a jump and broke my ankle and thought it was all over from there, but Race Safe strapped it up and I knew I had to race to keep 5th in the championship. The heat race sucked, I was in so much pain and just rode around to qualify – finished 8th. Going into the finals all I wanted to do was finish in the top 10, it started to rain and I started to smile, knowing that it was working in my favor, I finished 7th, 5th and 7th to get 5th on the night and in the championship. Im really happy for our team as we have worked extra hard to make things work. Can’t thank everyone at Coastal KTM enough and hopefully we can work together in the near future.
Danny Anderson & Luke Bond are unable to write their race report this week as they are living it up in FIJI.
Phil Bond
(Team Manager/Owner)
Arriving at the QSAC stadium we were greeted by the biggest Supercross track ever built in Australia with a length of 950 meters and 5 rhythm sections which was going to create awesome racing on the night. The team was back to 3 riders with the return of Luke Bond from injury from the last round. Mitch Austin was still struggling with injuries and couldn’t ride which was disappointing for him to not make the last round.
In the Pro Lites Dig’s qualified straight from his heat to the main, in 9th position. With a 3 race final format, consistency would pay off. His first race he had an average start, rode back to 6th place. Second race he got caught up in the first corner accident and rode from last back through the pack. .Last race he struggled again on the start and rode back to 10th place finishing off the night with a top ten. His starts let him down on the night, on the longer track making it hard to come back, Dig’s rode a strong consistent series with an 8th place finish in the championship. With limited lead up time before the Super X and a switch of bikes and teams half way through the year his results were excellent. Next year Digs will be stepping up to Pro Open ranks aboard the all new
450SXF 2010 model for an assault on the MX nationals with his strong hole shot talents and the power of the 450 it will be an exciting change for him next year.
It was good to see Luke back on his bike after missing the Parramatta round after injuries from Canberra. He qualified strong and looked good with only a weeks riding before the event. In his first heat he was dead last at the start and rode strong back to 10th, missing the main by I place. In the LCQ he put his head down and rode to 3rd place moving him to the main. His first race he rode to a 17th place finish. Second race with a better start, he finished 13th with an awesome ride battling with 12th and 11th to the end. His last race he was caught in a first corner pile up and made his way back up to 17th with a strong ride. Luke only turned 16 1 week before the Super X started, stepping to senior racing. His smooth and consistent riding qualified him to every main event round he finished. Riding with the best Pro Lite riders in the country, he showed experience and wisdom of much older riders. As his father it made me very proud to see all the hard work both of us have put in over the last 11 years has paid off. With a few more years of experience and hard work Luke could easy be top 5 material and the championship.
Qualifying for the Pro Open was not good for Daniel, he cased a jump right on the foot pegs injuring the bottom of his foot after only 3 laps. The medical team worked on his foot with physio. First heat I pushed Dan to the line on his bike as he couldn’t walk on his foot. He got a good start and rode to a 8th place, moving him straight to the main in a lot of pain. .Race one, we lined up, and down came the rain making the track slippery. With a good start McCoy rode to 7th position. Race 2 with another strong start, rode awesome to a 5th position finish, still in a lot of pain from his foot. .Last race he got caught up at the start and pushed through for a strong ride back to 7th position, giving us 5th position on the night and cementing our top 5 finish in the championship. What can I say, Daniel dug deep on the night pushing through the pain of a suspected broken foot. His strength and determination pushed him through the night. With McCoy stepping onto the KTM450SXF 2010 2 weeks before Super X his hard work, determination and ability to work with me on bike setup and never ending testing has paid off, with a top 5 championship finish showing that a relatively off the floor bike and a small privateer team can achieve anything with hard work and support.
I’d just like to thank our many sponsors Pacific Ink, High Roller Energy, Thor MX, KTM Australia, Motorex, Tubby Graphics, RHK, Talon, Loose Kid Industries, Alpinestar and Bridgestone for all there help and support through the year, without you guys all this is not possible. Myself, Deb and all the team at Coastal KTM would just like to thank you all. Also a very big thanks to JEFF LEISK and all the staff of KTM Australia. Jeff could see our vision and provided us with the bikes and equipment needed to get the job done and I’d personally like to say thanks mate.
Just a quick thanks to Craig, Digs and all the Anderson family for helping Luke with his training and letting him live with you guys, it really helped.
Next year is shaping up to be a big step forward for Coastal KTM with an exciting partnership formed between JDR Racing and Coastal KTM forcing a strong KTM presence in the paddock, with our rider list being finalized and sponsors and a new transporter being built, 2010 is going to be an exciting year.
